How Do You Clean Your Coffee Maker?

Why is it imperative to clean your coffee maker? Just like everything else, it does not stay clean for a long time. Also, the water you are using may contain minerals that are corrosive and may accumulate and harden up in the hard to reach areas of the coffee brewer.

Mold and lime deposits are usually your main enemy along with coffee oil residues that may go rancid over time. Cleaning your coffee brewer once a week or twice a week if you use it a lot is advisable.

Here are some tips you can try:

1. Wash it with vinegar solution
Vinegar works best in getting rid of lime deposits and accumulated molds. Clean the detachable parts first using a mild detergent or you can pop it in your dishwasher if it is dishwasher safe.

Put it back on again and put a cup of white vinegar with 4 cups of water in the water reservoir. Run an empty brewing cycle. The brewer will pass the vinegar solution inside and this will clear up the water and coffee passage off of mold and lime deposits. It will brew directly to the carafe so you should be able to see the dirt in the carafe.

2. Wash the parts with baking soda solution
Remove the coffee filter and coffee bean receptacle. Prepare a mixture of baking soda and water and place the soaked the detached parts in this mixture. Baking soda with remove oil deposits from the detached parts.

You can also do method one and run a baking soda solution so it can wash off residues inside the coffee maker. Just remember to run an empty water cycle again after either baking soda or vinegar solution to wash of the cleaning agents' residues.

3. Slough of coffee stains on the exterior of the brewer
If the exterior of the brewer is not as shiny as you want it to be, slough off residues and coffee stains and make it look new again using dry baking soda. Just rub baking soda on it and leave it there for 15 minutes. Wipe it clean with a damp towel. Do not wash it in running water as it can drench the motor of the brewer.
